Why did you start playing American Football?
My husband has played for GB and the Pirates for years and when the woman’s team was formed I couldn’t wait to give it a try.

Was it what you expected?
It was so much more fun than expected, I haven’t been involved in a sports team since I was a teenager and wasn’t sure if I was too old to join this kind of sport but I was wrong, I absolutely love it!

Proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment has to be when I won defensive player of the year last year, that was incredible,  also being able to be a captain for the defense is a huge honour.

Why should people give it a go?
It’s great fun and a great way to get involved in a sport and meet new people.

angela-3What was most challenging at first?
At first a lot of the players didn’t know the rules or the sport so this was challenging, everyone brought something to the field and we all helped each other, we’re still a new team and would like to welcome more girls to join us on our football journey.

What piece of advice would you offer new players?
Come along and give it a try, I always thought I was too short (only 5ft) to play this sport and I have surprised myself, we are a team of girls all ages, shapes and sizes, there is a position for everyone.

What’s the best thing about being part of the Pirates?
I love playing the sport, I have got a real passion for it, and too play with such a great bunch of girls is fantastic, I have made long life friends.  I have learnt lots of new skills just being part of this fantastic team.  You get to exercise and have lots of fun all at the same time!

Interested in getting involved?
We’re looking to grow our team ahead of the new contact American Football season starting in February. New players should be aged 17+ All shapes and sizes welcome, and no experience is needed. If you have fun and decide to join us, we’ll provide all equipment on loan once you learn the basics.  Come along and try at our taster session on Wednesday 7 December at Glasgow Club Crownpoint Sports Complex.

If you can’t make our taster session, new players are always welcome to head along to practice on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm at Crownpoint. Email info@piratesfootball.co.uk to find out more.
