EKP junior – Senior Stories: Matt Caminade

Welcome to the latest edition of Senior Stories, where each week writer Nicky Smith introduces one of our third year or ‘senior’ members of our junior squad.

One of the best things about American Football is watching top flight athletes do things that you just cannot do. We don’t get to see too much of that in the UK. One of the exceptions to the rule is our next Senior, Matt Caminade. Enjoy.

Nickname: Blue Steel
Position: Corner
Experience: Two years
Previous teams: None, started with junior

Blue Steel loves everything there is about being a Pirate, especially the defensive atmosphere and attitude which keeps him motivated to succeed.

He has aspirations to travel the world and has recently just returned from the Philippines where he was visiting family. Matt either wants to write about his travels or be an architect and design buildings around the world.

His fondest moment was sleeping in at training camp and missing the majority of the early morning practice. He sprinted down the hill towards the field to the applause of his teammates just in time to do a lap and end practice. (To be fair, he had handed this in before the season started so we assume that maybe this would have changed by now!)

matthew davies“Matthew is one of the best athletes on the Junior squad and transitioned well from receiver to defensive back at the beginning of this year.

He is fast, has great range, can tackle well and has broken up a number of key plays and made a few much needed tackles on the opposite side of the field this year, to help his teammates out of a tight spot. His speed is also a weapon and he will be able to add a lot to the seniors, on either side of the ball.”
