June 9th, 2016

Welcome to the latest edition of Senior Stories, where each week writer Nicky Smith introduces one of our third year or ‘senior’ members of our junior squad.

This week we introduce you to Tight End Jordan Gilmour who has the ability to make a huge impact on the field.

The Essentials

Jordan gName: Jordan Gilmour
Position: Tight End
Nickname: Bouncer
Experience: One year
Previous teams: None
Do you want to play for the seniors Yes
What position do you want to play at senior?
I definitely want to continue playing Tight End

Bio

Jordan earned the nickname bouncer when he wore his finest Stone Island jacket on the team Superbowl night out. Temperature be damned! He had it zipped up the full way the whole night and there was really no choice but to name him hooligan or bouncer.

Night out stories aside, Jordan is a solid team-first player. His proudest moment on the team was winning the special teams MVP award at training camp for his all round effort. Jordan loved the social aspect of camp as well, he relished the opportunity to hang out with his teammates over the weekend and find out more about them, even if he did have to listen to Stuart ‘Triangle’ Gilmour’s terrible banter.

Jordan is an aspiring fitness guru and is working towards being a personal trainer but would bet it all without hesitation for a shot in the NFL playing for his favourite team the Giants.

What Junior Head Coach Matthew Davies says

matthew davies“Jordan joined the team last year as a true rookie, playing primarily as a Tight End, but also stepping in as an Offensive Lineman during practice when the situation required. This year, with a much more robust squad, Jordan has been able to focus his time on growing in his favoured position and even recorded some catches in the games early on in the season!

On and off the field, Jordan is a quiet, unassuming young man who has significant room to grow as his confidence rises across this season. He misses the cut-off for another season at Junior in 2017 by less than two weeks, so we are disappointed to lose him but are confident that he will transition to senior and develop into an impact player at that level.”

Quick Fire Questions

Most underrated team mate?
The most underrated player in my opinion would have to be Paul McLennan or Jack Hunter. I remember during camp watching film and just seeing those two bursting their asses every play!

Daftest Pre game ritual/superstition?
Probably listening to Kyle Gold suggesting how to kill someone

If there was a Pirates royal rumble who would win?
Skittles or Mark Cochrane they just genuinely look scary so I’d just throw myself over the ropes.

If I could run the league for a day I would?
It says day but I’m just being a G and making it a weekend. So what I would do would be hold a tournament with all the British teams, get fixtures, if you lose you are out! All the way until the final 2 teams play each other. The winner gets some sort of trophy at the end.

Favourite NFL team is?
My favourite NFL team is NY Giants or Texans.. Much prefer College Football though.

Last TV show you binge watched?
Twilight , my ex made me watch it, It wasn’t even that bad wolves and vampires where ripping each other’s heads off.

The strangest instruction a coach has given you?
When coach Rab calls me over to do OLine stuff it feels weird – basically sitting in mid air but still running your feet going a certain direction.

Weirdest/best trash talk you’ve ever heard?
Kyle Gold saying something to someone or Jackson trying to slate someone – some of the things they say are hilarious!

Motto you try to live by?
Ball out!
